Our goal is to serve as a springboard for black girls and women to envision, embrace and achieve success.
We believe that a world with empowered black girls isn’t just a better world for black women, but for everyone. Our mission is to ignite a spark in the hearts of young black girls, empowering them to transform their communities and the world. By providing the tools, resources, and support they need to succeed, we will unleash their incredible potential and help them to become changemakers.
We understand that raising the next generation of black female leaders takes a village and we’ve rolled up our sleeves to get the work done, as our world depends on it.
Sisters Keepers’ vision was ignited many years ago, in response to a spate of femicides and sexual assaults of black women. What began as a series of marches and protests became a network of women supporting each other.
Additionally, many young black girls aged 12-18 are at risk of becoming homeless, addicted, pregnant, sexually assaulted, or worse, killed because of systemic prejudice.
It’s no secret that black young girls face significant challenges when it comes to accessing resources and opportunities that can help them break free from poverty, discrimination, and abuse.
We need mission-focused organizations to co-design programs and solutions that make a difference in the lives of black girls.
Let’s work together to create a future where every black girl can reach her full potential. Join us in our mission to transform the lives of young black girls.
We believe that respect is a fundamental value that empowers young black girls. We recognize that respect means treating others as you would like to be treated, and this principle is at the heart of everything we do.
We create a safe and inclusive environment where young black girls feel valued and empowered. We listen actively to their voices, involve them in decision-making processes, and model respectful behavior. By doing so, we create a space where everyone's contributions are recognized and celebrated.
We prioritize the needs and experiences of black girls and work to ensure that they have equal access to opportunities for education and personal development.
We believe that being transparent means being candid about our actions, decisions, and finances. This belief guides our actions. By committing to transparency, we strive to empower young black girls to become agents of change within our organization.
We believe in the importance of giving back to the community. We encourage volunteerism. By promoting volunteerism and giving back, we strive to build a community where everyone is eager to make a difference.
We seek to empower black girls to believe in themselves, their abilities, and their potential, and to take control of their own lives and futures.
We provide a safe and supportive space for black girls to learn, grow, and develop their skills and talents, and to connect with positive role models and mentors.
We encourage and teach resilience to young black girls, helping them to navigate challenges and overcome obstacles in their pursuit of education and personal development.
Over the next three years, we plan to launch more programs and expand to additional worldwide. We partner with organizations and schools to provide a variety of programs and resources that support the academic, personal, and professional development of black girls. In addition to these, we also provide mentoring support and are advocates for policy and systemic changes that will improve the lives and opportunities of black girls. We believe that true empowerment comes from not only providing support but also working to address the root causes of inequality.
